Every decision I make as a dentist—from how I present a treatment care plan to what kind of music we play during an appointment—is made through the lens of the patient experience. By putting myself in their shoes, I can ensure each person feels seen and heard and that all their needs are met.
While each patient is unique, they all benefit from being empowered by education. I always tell my team that the most important part of our day is when a new patient walks through the door. We don’t know what kind of experience they had last, how informed they are, or what kind of barriers have prevented them from seeking treatment in the past. That’s why it’s crucial to create a caring, communicative, and comfortable environment where they can learn about their oral health.
Patients who understand their dental treatment value the experience and tend to have better outcomes as a result. I will do whatever I can to facilitate this process. Whether showing them videos or animations or giving them a mirror and walking them through what’s going on in their mouths, I’m for anything that facilitates their autonomy.
Dr. Torres is a big believer that being an excellent healthcare provider requires a commitment to lifelong learning. “Continuous improvement means striving to learn more and provide my patients with the best options available. When it comes to patient care, settling for mediocre or average is not an option.”
When something in a patient’s mouth is preventing them from doing something they love—whether eating their spouse’s lasagna or sleeping peacefully—Dr. Torres sees it as her job to fix it. But, it’s about more than fixing teeth. “I always ask myself what my patients need most to live their happiest, most contented lives. Personalized plans for care take all facets of their story (and priorities) into account.”
Upon graduation, Dr. Torres worked long hours in a busy clinical setting. While the experience she gained was tremendously valuable, it made her realize that when it comes to the way she approaches her work, she wants the opposite. “I never want my patients to feel like they’re in an assembly line. As someone who values their community, I want to bring that same communal feeling into the way I practice dentistry.”
Dr. Torres believes that taking the time to walk patients through their treatment plans and educate them on why they need specific care ensures they are invested in their well-being. “Seeing a patient engaged in their treatment is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. When I see someone leave the office confident in what I've taught them, I feel like I've made a difference”
With a minor in Leadership and a cool head under pressure, Dr. Torres is a leader in team management. These communication skills not only help with patients who suffer anxiety in the dental chair but also go a long way toward building a warm, welcoming atmosphere and motivating a team to lead her vision of ultimate patient care.
A lifelong resident of Nevada, Dr. Torres is committed to serving the community where she was raised. “Henderson is just a few miles from the heart of Las Vegas, but a world away in terms of its environment. This is a wonderful place to live and call home and I am so proud to be part of this neighborhood and community.”
